When we look for coffee shops to work in, we prioritize the availability of wifi, outlets, seating, and a relatively quiet ambience. Bonus points if there are savory food items on the menu as well. If you’re looking for the same, search no further. This is our tried and true list of the best coffee shops to get work done in Austin. Some of them have multiple locations—we’ve tried them all so that you don’t have to, and the ones listed here are our favorites among them.
1. Summer Moon (Tech Ridge)
Location: 12901 N Interstate Hwy 35 Bldg 20, Unit 2001, Austin, TX 78753
Hours: Monday to Friday at 6 am to 8 pm, Saturday and Sunday at 7 am to 8 pm
Website: summermooncoffee.com
If you’re not familiar with one of Austin’s most beloved coffeehouses, this is the perfect time to check out them out and get work done as well. Summer Moon is known for their wood-fired coffee beans and delectable secret-recipe moon milk. Plenty of seating spread across two levels with plugs available at almost every table. They also have cute merch that would make great souvenirs if you’re visiting Austin.
Pro tip: Their moon milk is really sweet. We strongly recommend only a quarter sweetness or no more than half sweetness.
Food availability: Yes. Tacos, sandwiches, pastries, etc.
Vegan options: Plant-based milks
2. Sweetwaters Coffee & Tea
Location: 316 W 12th St, Austin, TX 78701
Hours: Monday to Friday at 7 am to 5.30 pm, Saturday and Sunday at 9 am to 3 pm.
Website: sweetwaterscafe.com/tx-austin-texas-capitol
We haven’t seen this place included on any other websites’ lists so far and we wonder why! Sweetwaters is located in a convenient spot downtown on W 12th St. It has a sun-lit interior showcasing interesting work of local artists. The Asian lady who runs the place and her staff are always so nice and helpful.
They have both indoor and outdoor seating with lots of plugs available. It also doesn’t seem to get too busy there, so you won’t have to worry too much about finding a free spot to plant your laptop.
Food availability: Yes. Bagels, biscuit sandwiches, pretzel sandwiches, pastries, desserts, etc.
Vegan options: Plant-based milks
3. Medici Roasting (Guadalupe St)
Location: 2222B Guadalupe Street Austin, TX 78705
Hours: Monday-Sunday at 7am – 7pm
Website: mediciroasting.com
This location is a hotspot for UT students and provides generous seating on its upper floor. Something about the ambience makes it feel very library-like, making it the perfect setting to stay focused and cross off some of those to-dos.
It is worth noting that while we would classify the coffee to be of higher quality, the price is also on the higher side as well.
Food availability: Yes. Tacos, rice bowls, noodle bowls, hummus, etc.
Vegan options: Plant-based milks and some food items
4. Bennu Coffee (Congress and Highland)
Locations:
Congress: 515 S Congress Ave, Austin, TX 78704
Highland: 109 Jacob Fontaine Ln suite 600, Austin, TX 78752
Hours: Open 24 hours
Website: bennucoffee.com
Bennu is open 24 hours! Because of this, they get a lot of business from college students who are studying for their exams. Our favorite locations are the ones on Congress (chill college student living room vibe + outdoor seating) and near ACC Highland (modern eclectic living room vibe). If you like mochas, they have some a great mocha menu, including spicy mochas—the Don Quixote and The Scarlet Letter.
Pro tip: Bennu does come with one caveat and that’s their wifi policy. You get a wifi code for every purchase and the code will be good for three hours of use. So if you plan to stay longer, we would recommend spacing out your purchases. Maybe get a coffee first and then something to eat later to get a second code.
Food availability: Yes. Sandwiches, bakery items, pastries, etc. Highly recommend the raw vegan peanut butter cup!
Vegan options: Plant-based milks and some food items
5. Brentwood Social House
Location: 1601 West Koenig Lane Austin, TX 78756
Hours: Daily 8 pm to 7 pm
Website: brentwoodsocial.com
Brentwood Social House is a house that has been converted into a charming cafe with English cottage vibes. There are many rooms that you can sit in; they even have a dedicated “Family” room for kids! They offer a variety of food items along with coffee. We would say the food tends to be on the saltier side, but we appreciate the options available.
Pro tip: Live acoustic guitar every Friday morning from 9 am to 11 am! The A/C is also pretty strong every time we go there, so bringing a light sweater or jacket might be a good idea.
Food availability: Bakery items, quiches, pot pies, etc.
Vegan options: Plant based milks and some food items
6. Epoch Coffee (Village)
Location: 2700 W Anderson Ln., Austin, TX 78757
Hours: Monday to Friday 6.30 am to 6 pm, Saturday and Sunday 7 am to 8 pm
Website: epochcoffee.com
Epoch at The Village is a popular local chain with a low-key chill vibe with lots of indoor seating and a few outdoor tables on the nice open patio at the back. They also have some board games available if you come with friends. We like this location more than their other ones because it’s more spacious here with more available seats. The Village is also a nice place to stroll and visit other places of interest like the Alamo Drafthouse for a dine-in movie theater experience or Madam Mam’s for Thai cuisine (with a few Thai-Mexican fusion items).
Food availability: Pastries, tacos, tamales, etc.
Vegan options: Plant-based milks and some food items
7. Capital One Cafe (Domain)
Location: 11801 Domain Blvd Suite 160 Suite 160, Austin, TX 78758
Hours: Monday – Thursday 9 am to 8 pm, Friday 9 am to 2 pm, Saturday 9 am to 1 pm, Sunday 10 am to 6 pm
Yes, it’s run by a bank, but it’s set up as a coffee shop with only 2-3 bank staff on site in case you’re interested in opening an account. The cool thing is that they have private rooms on a first-come-first-served basis, no booking needed. So if you have calls scheduled, this is a great place to have them. Just note that the private rooms don’t have plugs, but there are many plugs available in the open seating areas of the cafe. It’s a great modern workspace with lots of seating, what’s not to love?
Pro tip: A Capital One card will get you 50% off your coffee. That’s a massive deal! Call us baited, but we opened a free checking account with them for this sole reason and we feel that it’s been well worth it.
Food availability: Yes. Bakery items, etc.
Vegan options: Plant-based milks and some food items
8. Opa
Location: 2050 S Lamar Blvd, Austin, TX 78704
Hours: Every day 8.30 am – 11 pm
Website: opasola.com
This is by far our favorite place to work in South Austin. There’s something about that reflects the non-pretentious come-as-you-are spirit of South Austin. The interior feels like a converted barn with a full bar. Lots of seating inside and out. We personally find it very cozy and it’s been one of the most productive places for us to work. That said, if you prefer a more brightly lit space, this is not the spot for you unless you sit outdoors. We also love that they often hold live jazz performances in their outdoor area in the evenings. It’s such a nice vibe, plus their Greek food is amazing! We recommend the pita pizzas, hummus trio, and spanikopita.
Pro tip: It’s a Greek establishment. Make sure you know what a frappe is before ordering it. Hint hint, it’s not the same as a frappucino.
Food availability: Yes. Very tasty Greek food! Bakery items, pastries, spanikopita, pita pizzas, hummus, salads, cheese plate, etc.
Vegan options: Plant-based milks and some food items
9. Dear Diary Coffee
Location: 1212 Chicon St #103, Austin, TX 78702
Hours: Monday to Friday at 6.30 am to 2 pm, Saturday and Sunday at 7 am to 7 pm.
Website: deardiary.coffee
Instagrammable? Supports local artists? All vegan? 100% Women-owned coffee supply chain? Check! Check! Check! and Check! Dear Diary is one of those cafes you used to (and maybe still do) fantasize about opening. There’s not a lot of space, but it’s comfortable enough to get cozy and productive. One side of the shop is dedicated to selling stationary and the works of Austin’s creative community. They also host a lot of meetups on the weekends like the East Austin Writing Project, open mics, etc.
Food availability: Yes. Bakery items, kolaches, tacos, bagels, etc.
Vegan options: Everything!
10. Mozart’s Coffee Roasters
Location: 3825 Lake Austin Blvd, Austin, TX 78703
Hours: Monday to Sunday at 7 am to Midnight
Website: mozartscoffee.com
Even if not to work, you should visit Mozart’s to enjoy its breathtaking views over Lake Austin. Despite being mostly outdoor seating, there are some indoor seating and outdoor outlets can be found near the stairs between the decks. Be warned though that it can get pretty crowded, especially on the weekends. People are quite chatty here, so it’s not the quietest option on this list. It’s great for days with nice weather and a lighter workload.
Pro tip: They have live music in the evenings every Thursday through Sunday starting around 4 pm and sometimes another session around 10 am to 1 pm on the weekends. So plan accordingly if the music will bother your workflow. You can find their event calendar here.
Food availability: Yes. Bakery items, pastries, pizza, empanadas, samosas, desserts.
Vegan options: Plant-based milks and a few food items (not that many)
